San Diego's Best Craft Beer Bars

September 1, 2017

The San Diego craft beer scene has been out of control for years now. With more and more amazing micro-breweries popping up each year, finding locations that serve a variety of these options is every craft beer fan’s dream.

If you’re trying to get a taste of every brewery in San Diego County without driving to 152 tasting rooms (and counting), finding a local joint with an incredible tap list and some delicious bites is the next best thing.

We've compiled a list of our favorite craft beer hot spots that have everything you’re looking for including, atmosphere, food, entertainment, and yes – a wide variety of local brews just for you.

  1. Common Theory Public House: Tucked away in the heart of Convoy, this amazing craft beer oasis shines out like a bright light. Their amazing menu paired with a never-ending supply of rotating local craft beer selections makes this a great dinner spot for beer lovers. Big screens and events make this a very active hangout with lots to offer!

  2. URGE American Gastropub: What’s not to love? Incredible food and an outstanding list of craft beef from all over San Diego County. The locals in Rancho Bernardo do their best to talk this place up so take their advice and ours by jetting over there for a burger (our recommendation is the Burger of the Gods) and a few of the delicious beers they have on tap!

  3. Hamilton’s Tavern: A San Diego beer institution. If you call yourself a beer fan and have not been here, you need to go immediately. Known for its extensive craft beer selection, Hamilton’s is a craft beer drinker’s paradise. Combine their tap list with great pub fare and you have an unbeatable classic.

  4. Barrel Republic: If consuming as much craft beer as possible is your thing, you have to make a stop at Barrel Republic in Pacific Beach. This unique “pour your own” concept allows you to become the beertender and select your favorites from a massive list of local and national craft beers.

  5. O’Brien’s: Legends are legends for a reason and O’Brien’s is an institution where all local San Diego craft breweries want to be on tap. Their extensive list of bottled, canned and draft beers knows no rivals. Pay homage to an OG craft beer pub and spend some quality drinking time at O’Brien’s. You will not regret the experience!

  6. Toronado: Another San Diego craft beer institution is this North Park staple. Great beer, reasonably priced, in the heart of one of the best drinking districts in San Diego. Toronado is home to a variety of rare beers and big names. Beer lovers will feel like a kid in a candy shop sampling beers here!

  7. The Regal Beagle: This quaint little establishment has been overwhelming beer snobs with amazing drinking options for years! With trivia, special IPA deals, and the perfect pub fare to match your pint, stopping by this watering hole will please your palate every time.

  8. The Brew Project: Describe as having “San Diego’s Best Draft Selection and Rotation” by the WestCoaster, this relatively young craft beer hot spot made a big impact in a short amount of time. Their fantastic food pairs well with the team’s obvious dedication to local, independent craft beer. The Brew Project is a great brunch spot and awesome place to hang out with folks who truly love San Diego craft beer.

  9. The Brewer’s Tap Room: The newest addition to San Diego’s list of local craft beer destinations, The Brewer’s Tap Room specializes in putting beers on the menu from local nano-breweries. This is the place to go to find the biggest gathering of independent craft beer in San Diego. If you find yourself in North County, do yourself a favor and spend some time making friends here!

Happy hunting! Cheers!
