Winter (Beer) is Coming, San Diego!

Hey, San Diego! Winter is almost here and while our winter may not be the same in So-Cal as it is in Boston, the beers that bring in the feeling of the holiday season remain the same. From fully-loaded stouts, to spiced beers and winter warmers, winter beers have a taste you recognize from the first sip.
We wanted to pay tribute to some of these local seasonal beauties from a few of San Diego's favorite craft breweries.
Here is a list of some of the best winter warmers in town!
Rollo: Longship Brewery in Mira Mesa has a very diverse menu and does not shy away from fearlessly brewing beers with bold and balanced flavors. We've added a modern flavor twist on a classic stout body, by choosing malts with caramel notes, caramelizing some sugar, and adding a pinch of sea salt. The Rollo was born to please palates year-round, but is especially comforting when the temperature drops and your body's natural craving for stouts is in effect.
Xocoveza: Perhaps one of the best seasonal beer examples comes from one of San Diego’s oldest craft beer institutions, Stone Brewing. It should be no surprise for them to top any list, and this exciting seasonal is “an insanely delicious take on Mexican hot chocolate brewed with cocoa, coffee, pasilla peppers, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg.”
Maplesaurus Rex: Pure Project's got the stout game on lock, but this combo of flavors elevates this imperial stout and makes it feel like just the right type of 14% beer to be drinking on cold winter nights (or days). Try it on tap at their original Miramar location.
Baltic Porter: Another brewery that has blown up thanks to quality beers is Eppig Brewing. Their lager game is incredibly strong and that includes an award-winning dark lager that is light but full-bodied enough to make it perfect drinking for this time of year. Give them a visit to see what other goodies this little unicorn has on tap!
Santa's Little Helper: This beer from Port Brewing has become a CLASSIC winter-time favorite across San Diego County and beyond. Every year this festive holiday beer has delightful holiday artwork inviting you to open the bottle and experience deep malt and roasted coffee notes. The best thing about this 10%-er is Port Brewing's description, stating that it pairs well with "leftover fruitcake and sugar cookies."
Althing 2019: Longship Brewery's third anniversary beer is an imperial stout that sits above 13% but that drinks like a mid-range ABV. It made this list because it is available NOW and because nothing will put you more in the holiday mood than 10 ounces of this warming, smooth, delicious imperial stout made for commemorating important moments like an anniversary, or the holidays.
Enjoy the season with friends and family and please always enjoy your beers responsibly.
